September 15, 2019 - June 27, 2019 Episode 473-900
I've been trying to catch up with One Piece since last year and I'm almost there!!! I reached Wano Arc recently...so here's some thoughts on the arcs I've watched. It's been awhile since I made this post. 2009!!

Marineford: Sad arc where Ace died and traumatized me to stop the series lol But that war was waaay too dragged out with how long it took for Luffy to reach Ace. RIP ACE and White Beard.

Post-War: Luffy childhood backstory with Ace and Sabo. Prob didn't have to stop the series back then when there were more Ace content!! Oh yea the anime reminded us who the Straw Hat crew were since they've been gone for so long.

Fish-Man Island: More Jinbei is good. The animation got noticeably better in the later battle.

Punk Hazard: I don't really like when the crew separates so much...this was pretty noticeable. Didn't expect Ceasar to last that long with the crew too haha. Law and Smoker working together with Luffy was fun. Law was very cool B) The body switches was fun too haha.

Dressrosa: LONG ASSSSSSSSSSSSSS....Rebecca's boobs was most distracting. Sabo reintroduction and reunion with Luffy was touching TwT Bartolomeo being an actual fanboy was funny. Law's backstory with Corazon was super sad T_T God Usopp lol.

Zou: Surprisingly short. Furry paradise. The big reveal with them protecting the ninja was so shonen and very touching ToT

Whole Cake Island: Sanji arc!! His role kinda dwindled to being a nosebleeding joke since the Fish-man arc, so it was good seeing him more fleshed out. His family were terrible, but their transformation were very cool. GERMA 66!! Was kinda rooting him with Pudding. He finally has a girl that loves him back lol. The whole Katakuri battle was too long and felt empty. Like there's no reason Luffy and Katakuri to battle out so long without much connection or stake besides having similar power and they kinda respect each other. The music act tho was very trippy to this arc. Big Mom's backstory was really disturbing and grotesque. RIP Pedro.

I bought a Olympus E-P1 before I left for AX, but the camera didn't come in time for me to use it, so my sis ended up playing with while I was gone. After she left for Hawaii I finally got a chance to play with it by taking photo of my PVC haha. /lame

On to photo dump!! )

I'm getting sick of it...am I attracted to self sacrificial character?? The type of character that lends his life to be a wake up call for the "main" character. The doormat!!

One of One Piece's animation director, Naoki Tate, seems responsible for a lot of One Piece TV anime more amazing and memorable complex action sequence. He was also heavily involved in One Piece 9th movie's character design and animation and also worked on the Summer Wars movie, and his style resembles that of Hosoda's work of simplicity and lots of dynamic action. I think for the most part, all the episodes he worked on were my favorite because it felt cinematic and also reason why One Piece anime is worth watching because they have talents such as Tate working on it.

Hope to see more of his work :3

December 04-December 17 Episode 301-430
Throughout this time, I was working on my animation finals while watching...so I watched batches of episodes a day and to my surprise I caught up so quickly! Anyways, I made it through the One Piece marathon! Its so doable. And the episode are constantly connected that you want to watch the next to get through the arc haha.

SPOILERS

Enies Lobby: I was so thrilled Robin got her revenge!! That bastard was so abusive toward her, it was just painful to watch.

Post-Enies Lobby Arc: I think these episodes were the more relaxing and entertaining ones!! And more on Luffy's family history when Jii-chan showed up! That's one bloodline he's got. And I got more of my Bakaanky/Bakaberg scenes <3 Seriously, my first OP ship. And getting Franky to join the crew. ROFL. So ridiculous.

ALSO THIS episode made it my day.

Ice Hunter Arc: The villains were so annoying. I sorta half cared about the characters here...

Thriller Bark Arc: I saw some people voting this as their favorite too. I'm half and half on it. Basically the fight feels too long where it feels too hopeless(like Enies Lobby). Tho it felt like there were group efforts to fight one villain...but still do couldn't triumph without Luffy. Also noticeable is the Nami fanservice orz;; But at least the villains are funny, esp Oars being so huge and scary but with Luffy's idiot personality XD. But what works really nice in the series is the tie back from a really old episode with the Laboon the whale to their new crewmate, Brook! I thought that was clever. Also his backstory was sad too. Its like what if Luffy lost his crewmate sorta feeling.

Sabaody Archipelago Arc: Befriending a former foe! This arc brought up very disturbing subjects such as slave trade/labor/auction/treatment and racism. It was seriously disturbing!!!! And the redeeming factor:

LUFFY'S EPIC PUNCH

Also Luffy teaming with 2 of the highest bounty captain against the Marines. That was so cool XD But toward the end when Kuma attacked, it was heart wrenching seeing Luffy unable to save his friends!! Ah..tho the animation was really superb in getting that feeling T^Tb

Amazon Lily Arc: Luffy alone! But stuck with an island full of half naked woman! I bet Sanji would want to be there instead. The Mushroom part really funny...good thing he was unconscious. Also I thought I would hate Boa Hancock, but she turned out to be just as sad as the rest of the OP characters. Everyone has such traumatic past I swear!! Her shoujo moments were funny...and the reinterpretation of Luffy in her mind is so manly haha.

Impel Down Arc: Luffy teaming up with old enemies! That was funny. Surprisingly Buggy almost looked a bit attractive with his hair tied up that way. I really want to Luffy to save Ace!! *spoiled self with some of the manga chapters*

I've been always trying to figure out whats the link with Mamoru Hosoda's film... I think I found one of it. Yamashita Takaaki. Animator/animation director. There's always this fluid motion in Hosoda's film and I'm trying to figure out whose style is constantly carried to each of is film. Looking at this video clip I found, the work he's done is impressive and its defnitely that fluid motion that catches my attention. (Tho I'm not sure whose style is carried on to Summer Wars since its similar to Tokikake, but it doesn't seem he's in the staff.)

Anyways, awesome animation samples from this animator:

SPOILERS

November 21-December 04 Episode 207-300
Okay I went thru this batch really fast...because it was exciting to watch that I had to watch it at home as well instead of just at work.

Davy Back Fight Arc:: This arc felt more for fun with random game events. So it was just enjoyable to watch everyone using teamwork to battle it out. Also how Mr. Foxy keeps getting sad when people make fun of him haha.. But it got annoying when he comes back and betrays Luffy and crew when they met up again.

Water 7 Arc: A lot more entertaining than Skypiea arc. So much emotional drama happening. The characters play up the drama really well. So its frustrating watching them break up like that as a group. Also Merry! Even as a ship, it shows to be a character as well. So its sad when it can't sail anymore. Also the suspense in each episode toward the CP9 is never ending!! Another plus is Franky!! Damn, his past is soo sad. I actually cried watching his backstory. Even tho he is technically alive, terrible stuff happened in his past.

Also I really want to draw CuttyxIceberg fanart hahaa... they're so cute young!!

Enies Lobby: The fights are more entertaining. Also the characters are shown to be SUPER COOL and hawt when they're so serious!!!! *____* *falling in love with all of them* Also Robin's past is just as sad. Seriously, everyone has such tragic past. And they're all experiencing it at such a young age. Yeeshhh if it were me, I would be more depressed. Also, Spandam D: What a jerk. He's constantly beating Robin up when she can't do anything...someone kill him already!!!

And funny clip earlier in the series.

October 09- November 21: Finished 101-206 episodes.

Uwahhh finally!! Took a little bit longer because there were some days I didn't watch it...

Baroque Saga was incredibly long but the battle at Alabastar was epic and the ending was sweet. Bye Bye Vivi!!

Skypiea arc for me felt boring until they finally introduce the backstory of Norland. Such tragic ending for them...but the friendship between Kalgara and him was so beautiful~~! There wasn't much of a backstory for Eneru, especially considering he is just plain evil. Oh yea, Luffy shirt was open throughout the Skypiea arc, so that was a bit of fanservice to watch hahaa... where does he get those abs....

Just finished G8 arc, and it was much refreshing to watch something a bit shorter and more zanny fun. The animation and art direction I find in this arc to be well executed even for a filler. Especially when there are hundreds of marines to animate!! Also Sanji was all loveydovey throughout each episode haha <3

I'm missing my Ace~!!!

September 10- October 08: Finished 1-100 episodes.

Omg finally passed the 100 mark!! T_T It took me a while to get into it...but after they finally entered the grandline and past the dragon filler arc to episode 65, it was smooth sailing and pretty quick to get into.

Right now, the most appealing thing about One Piece, is Oda's ability to give every character a freakin backstory. And he doesn't mind taking the time to develop everything about the character, even if they are minor. Which is quite impressive considering HOW many characters that exist in One Piece :O! Thus, the series is 400+ long because the arcs are long. I think about the first 90 episodes was just getting Luffy's crew member @_@;;

And the variation of designs for each individual is amazing. But the female characters, seem to have the exact same face and body shape /: I can probably replace Nami's hair on Vivi and they'll still look the same. But so far, the girls aren't as annoying. I somehow want to ship Nami with everyone haha...(well individually). Luffy/Nami moments were so cute during Aarong arc.

And just recently, I think adding the D兄弟 just made it for me haha.... want to draw them together XD Ace being the polite brother and meeting Luffy's crew for the first time was so classic haha...

I thought Chopper would be annoying, but no, he's ridiculously cute!!! Omg his seiyuu!!!! And even Usopp seem more of a practical guy than annoying. He doesn't seem to be the obnoxious liar...in fact it sorta dies down. Plus, I enjoyed how Nami and him would be scared together haha. Sanji is just adorable ahhaa when he's flirting with the girls and how he call out to Nami-suwan~~<3! Zoro role seems to have died down to just a swordsman or sleeping most of the time, but I liked how he was playing with his new katana XD As for Luffy, shoot, his own crewmen beats him up and he's a bit slow minded. Esp in Drum Island, where he suddenly realizes its cold after 20 minutes in. And when he kicks ass, he kick asses. So many かっこいい moments.

Okay, I'll end my rambling here. Below are basically quick tweeted thoughts as I was watching the episodes.
