I went to a bunch of events this past two months...hopefully I'll get to posting some reports or photos. It would be easier if I can just post in Flickr or something...but I like to keep my photos for friends only, which I filter a lot here on LJ already.

-J-Pop Summit in SF (7/27/2013)
-Food Fest in SF (8/17/2013)

Free!
I've been kinda obsessed with Free! swimming anime. Is it the first...where we have GLORIOUS ABS EVERYWHERE??? I have no idea why I have a deep love for abs hahaa. But I do...and collect figures and nekkid torsos to display on my desk for reference and viewing. This series hit my weakness. PLUS its animated by Kyoto Animation!! I never really liked their earlier works that much because of the moe style they've developed for while. But Hyouka brought me back to them with appealing character designs that fits my taste. Now I just love the charm of their characters and storytelling like in Chuunibyou or Tamako Market. And now an anime catering to girls?!!! The ultimate gift. While I didn't expect much from series besides seeing abs, there's some really nice relationship dynamic between the characters. And its just so much fun to watch! Its genuinely funny and sweet. Reading High Speed! novel also added more depth to the characters, so it was nice seeing how they incorporated it into the anime.

Merchandise wise, I've been basically buying most of the magazines where they're in the cover orz;; Already bought the guidebook and novel (ordered from japan w/expensive shipping). Same with how I try buying so much K (depending on characters tho...). Japanese magazine are so expensive!! 17-20 bucks!! How did that happen?! I look forward to getting my hands on the fanbook after the series is done! Also hope the series did well for Kyoani that they'll make a second season or more shows for girls heheh....

Enough rambling....*goes to draw some more free! fanart*

Today is Free Comic Book Day! http://www.freecomicbookday.com

I got some free swags at SpaceCat Comic Shop in Bascom Ave and SLG Publishing Store on Market. I never bought any western comic before haha. But there was this issue called X-Men Forever Annual that was really pretty and caught my interest. Apparently it is in fact drawn by a Japanese artist Sana Takeda haha. So still not quite Western.... The rest of my free swags are American comics...

I still can't get used to the aesthetic. My biggest pet peeves is the coloring does not work with the lineart at all. And that's just a major turn off. Also the tiny bubbles that float in the picture...hmmm... Perhaps, I was raised with too much manga haha. Tho my cousin, when I was younger, collected a lot of American comic, and we did grew up watching X-men cartoon and Superman etc.. But I never actually read them. When I read it, I feel like I have no idea what they're talking about. Now comic strips...that's a different story. I've grew up with Garfield most of my childhood. Those are much simpler and easier to follow as opposed to X-men and stuff...

I'll just stick to manga...but perhaps try to read the free swags I got. (Tho i picked them out by aesthetic...)
