How does one go about planning their trip to japan?

Like finding flight, hotel, jr etc. I've never done this by myself before XD;;

I want to go to Summer Comiket.

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW. I took a flier from Kinokuniya today about a travel agency. Maybe using them would be helpful? =x Or maybe we should just plan everything ourselves.

They said that staying at Ikebukuro is best to stay....and i agree. i practically went back there again on my second visit. Also my co-worker want us to visit the gundam place near the Tokyo Big Sight haha..

Wanna stay at kyoto for a few nights to look at temples? I want to visit my host family as well.

How long do you want to stay? One week or a little more?

I definitely want to go sight seeing. I'm going to have to tell my godmother that I'll be in Japan. She'll want to drop by one day, but I'm so not going to make a trip to her place. Way too far.

A little more than one week maybe? One week is going to seem so short.

i usually check flights (i use JAL directly, but travelocity and other flight searching sites are fine), then hotels (i use asiarooms.com cuz i want things done easy). these days there's an easy NEX+suica card combo that can get you on the shinkansen to the tokyo + the suica card that you can ride on all JR and metros by an easy swipe sensor thing (like the octo card in HK). you just have to buy it at the lower level of the airport where the subways are.

if you want to get the JR rail pass, you have to pay for it at a travel agency in the states (they give you a voucher) that sells it and pick it up at the airport in japan (the same place as the new shinkansen + suica card deal...it's a travel center for foreigners)

if you choose a hotel with an airport bus though, you can just take an airport limo bus to your hotel...

i don't know if that's helpful or not haha i just do it like i do any other travelling things i plan =p

and if you want to look up hostels, find sites like this: http://www.hostels.com/jp.html. make sure you check ratings for a safe, clean place!
