Free Comic Book Day

Today is Free Comic Book Day! http://www.freecomicbookday.com

I got some free swags at SpaceCat Comic Shop in Bascom Ave and SLG Publishing Store on Market. I never bought any western comic before haha. But there was this issue called X-Men Forever Annual that was really pretty and caught my interest. Apparently it is in fact drawn by a Japanese artist Sana Takeda haha. So still not quite Western.... The rest of my free swags are American comics...

I still can't get used to the aesthetic. My biggest pet peeves is the coloring does not work with the lineart at all. And that's just a major turn off. Also the tiny bubbles that float in the picture...hmmm... Perhaps, I was raised with too much manga haha. Tho my cousin, when I was younger, collected a lot of American comic, and we did grew up watching X-men cartoon and Superman etc.. But I never actually read them. When I read it, I feel like I have no idea what they're talking about. Now comic strips...that's a different story. I've grew up with Garfield most of my childhood. Those are much simpler and easier to follow as opposed to X-men and stuff...

I'll just stick to manga...but perhaps try to read the free swags I got. (Tho i picked them out by aesthetic...)

I agree about the inks/colours thing... :( IDK I always thought (or at least I was raised on?) the idea that they were supposed to mesh together, not have each person trying to outdo each other with extreme inks and extreme colours...!?

Seriously. It's like an afterthought. Also the colors look airbrushed or gradient...and no consideration to mood of the panel... It probably works better b/w than in color...saves time too >_>
