Using Credit Card in Japan...

I think it's about time I get a credit card haha.... (uses debit)

Hmmm... when I used mine overseas I don't think it was charged a fee at all. Maybe because Visa is accepted everywhere though.

Charges me a fee and I'm Visa.

Remember they close early... An ATM machine that closes early...

just ask derek ^_^ He did his research before we went. Most companies will charge you 3%, but he told me my Wamu bank Mastercard only charges 1%. In any case, the differences are fairly negligible, so unless you make hundreds of dollars of purchases, the charges will all be small.

dont bother using a credit card in japan except at really big places, most places dont take cc. japan is a cash society. i learned this the hard way. if you're travelling, bring travelers checks. i never spent a weekend in tokyo without at least around 50000 yen on me~

Hm...traveler checks...

when friends came to visit me, those that didnt bring cash brought a citibank card. there are citibanks in the larger cities in japan that you can withdraw cash from. im not sure what the fee is, though.

I have Bank of America and I didn't get charged when over there. But I hardly used it, cash apparently is much preferred and the only places to withdraw are like 3 (Damn post-offices!) and most weren't open when I was up. 8D;
I recommend taking tons of cash, just secure it so it doesn't get lost.
