Poyo Yo! Demon Preview Visual Novel
We completed our first Visual Novel! Yay!
lucathia_rykatu wrote a better post about it haha.

Poyo Yo! Demon Preview 1.0
FINISHED one month NaNoRenO 2013 challenge! As I’ve said before, its still a rough version. But playable throughout! We could only finish one route with our busy schedule.
Enjoy! Feedback through note, comments, email (POYOSTUDIO at gmail) would be awesome! If it has enough interest we will go back and work on it some more this year…or else it’ll be like all my other projects floating around XD;;
Synopsis:
Yuu* holds no love for demons. Because of them, Yuu has always had to crossdress to hide her identity. When she joins GateLight Corp, a supposedly ordinary, renewable energy company, she never thought she would end up having to confront them.

I don't actually play many otome games...which is where I heard about this project, EnglishOtomeGames. It was just on my tumblr dashboard, and I thought hey I want to try making one! LOL. I asked
lucathia if she wanted to collab. I knew we wanted to work on a story/manga together but never really progressed. Since this came up, it actually forces us to work!
My only experience with Visual Novel is probably Ace Attorney series and 30 minutes of Hakuouki~ So when I think of the pacing of the game, I think AA haha.
I wanted to use my original characters. At first thought of using Cheri and Tye from Meiwaku na Onna for an Otome Game, but I never drew out other characters...so I didn't want to waste time designing characters. Then I decided to try Poyo Yo! Demon characters since they're all designed, but never had any backstory. This is where
lucathia comes in and help me brainstorm and flesh out the characters. They already had snippets in my business card collage. So we used that to build around a history, backstory, new characters and plot. There's a lot more details we thought out that hasn't happened in the game yet!
We also had to learn how to use Ren'Py. So we sat in my room on the computer and looked at the tutorials and practice writing simple scripts. It was pretty cool seeing it happen! Later I left
lucathia to start writing the script since writing is more of her forte. I started the backgrounds and roughing the characters. Started cleaning up Faing and Nox. Lucathia sends the scripts back and forth, so I can figure out where to put the images. Eventually we had a good enough script where I can adjust the pacing, images, timing etc.
Then all of a sudden she sent me an email that she will be busy on the last week!!! ORZ;; I ended up taking over the writing as well as the art haha...Edited a bunch of stuff I felt could have more punch, fixed some characterization, and fleshed out the last part of the game with the fighting, since she never finished the ending. At the same time I was finishing all the other backgrounds, the demon encounters, refining some sketches, adding more Faing expressions etc. So hectic! But I manage to accomplish a lot over the weekend.
Sent the script back to lucathia for editing and padding and also finding sfx and bgm. I get the stuff back and tweek timing of the sounds. Also adjust the ui a bit (we didn't do much with UI since we didn't have time for that) There was a lot of passing the script that it was hard to keep track of the updated script b/c it was a specific file haha.
jen_kat help test the game and had more notes, so back to more script editing.
It was nerve-wrecking at the last minute trying to get it ready to upload! I had the forum post ready, but I screwed up copying the wrong unedited file and had to immediately fix that and reupload it again before someone actually downloaded it! Didn't help I was sick and had a dreadful headache and my nose was bleeding from accidentally eating a chili...
In the end we managed to finish it! I really like the music we used for the title screen! It kinda sets the mood of the game XD But timing and testing it was a bit of a pain... I hope to clean it up some more and we add more route to it...but right now I have convention stuff to prepare!! But from the small incoming review, it's been pretty positive so far! Even tho I keep worrying how rough it is, the story seems to work for peeps enough that the art isn't too much of a distraction XD
Right now 383 downloaded it!!! I hope we get more reviews on the weekend when peeps have chance to play it! I am powered by feedback ahahaa. And being absent on Tumblr for about a month ruined my speedpainting progress....
