hahah i totally feel the same way, but that's because i never really took an interest in arting until mid college, and by then, i already made all my friends (who were non arting types) and so i just settled with deviantart =p
i always wish i had a friend to draw, and learn how to do things artwise, with too....it seems like it'd be so much fun. but now i'm stuck with a job =(
on the note about graphic design. my roommate says getting a degree would make it easier initially for you to beat other candidates who don't have a degree for good design firms and studios, but as time goes on, a GD degree won't help you win over someone's experience or portfolio. He's a designer for deutsch with only an associates in GD (which is not considered much i guess?) from a comm college and now he's in one of the top advertising agencies (from what i heard)...
also, a GD degree would help you get places better tpop, half of whose GDs don't have degrees in design hahaha....uh....i am sad.
