AVATAR CASTING STILL FAILS

Dev Patel as ZUKO???

I mean just because he's Asian...doesn't mean he fits the Asians I think people see Zuko's culture portrayed----which is more Chinese than anything. And Indian and Chinese...not the same culture. T_T Plus the paleness of Zuko is different from Patel. And I'm sure its not that hard to find a Chinese actor.... lots of potential actors are out there if given the opportunity rather than just picking a Asian star who became successful with his film.

What the hell is up with these ignorant cast directors... let alone let white kids portrayed as Asian influenced characters in an Asian influenced world.

[livejournal.com profile] aang_aint_white: has a bunch of info to protest against these terrible casting calls.

Avatar live action is still full of fails and they even haven't started productions...

Wow this is my first time reading about the cast and its very dissapointing. To see that some of the cast consist of white actors playing Asian characters is insultting. Espcially since M Night Shyamalan himself is Asian....then I started to think about the casting of the Tekken movie. Eventhough both are different, but the roles of Asian characters in live action Tekken movie are played by Asian actors and half Asian actors.*Sighs* I'm not like the choice of the actors so far.

I heard about this just yesterday actually and I was like wtffff, I mean, Zuko's more East Asian than anything and I was really surprised they went with someone Indian (WHICH I SUPPOSE IS BETTER THAN JESSE MCCARTNEY STILL?!)

This is gonna be as disappointing as Dragonball orz

  1. So this casting decision TOTALLY lends itself even more to the rumors that M. Night Shyamalan wants to cast himself as Iroh -_-

  2. This is so totally their, "NO NO LOOK we cast ONE main character as a person of color, so our casting decisions aren't racially discriminatory anymore! Even though our casting sheets specifically asked for Causasians first for these characters, and Patel only got the part AFTER we cast Jesse McCartney." Oh Paramount. This will not be the great 'get out of jail free' card you think it is.

  3. This also entails that (going by the largely homogeneous nature of the four nations) the story will now be about the EVIL BROWN PEOPLE of the Fire Nation attacking the other good, white nations. And (evil brown) Zuko will only turn to the good side after the enlightened, white Gaang show him the true way. This is why it is imperative that the Gaang feature more person-of-color representation, because otherwise, this movie's just going to be showcasing some real fucked up--and sadly pretty Hollywood standard--politics -_-

  4. Having said that, Dev Patel > Jesse McCartney. I mean, not even in respects to the role. Just in general.

If anything, Dev Patel should play Sokka or something. I always saw the fire kingdom as Japanese (technologically superior, black ships?) and Earth Kingdom as more Chinese/Korean. Hm.

Anyways, this movie will probably be even more fail than the DBZ movie.
