Watched Narnia 3 today with
lucathia
I didn't read the book so I don't care about the faithfulness crap book fans use to grade movies. It was actually disappointing. In fact it wasn't memorable. But the most annoying was the cinematography. I watched it in 2d, because 3d is a waste of money. Something with the filming felt less cinematic or the fact they were shooting a movie. Particularly dark shots felt like it was done with a hand held video camera and visually the characters were too sharp from their background etc. Apparently they switched over to digital camera which makes the movie feel cheap and flat? There was a panning with the crews rowing or Lucy lying near the fire with the little girl that was so obvious for me. It just didn't feel like a movie...but a tv show or movie home video? Did anyone else notice this? I'm not going crazy am I? And the camera shaking, weird blurring, or walking along with the actors was annoying.
Plus because of the lower budget...the production didn't feel grand as the first two film. Which makes it feel even more cheap. The ship design could have more texture or character to it. And the CGI characters....the dragon did not feel believable. He felt too CGI. When it was just the dragon and the mouse, it was even more obvious.
Story wise, I guess they could have made it more dramatic or develop the characters more. It felt rushed. Like Edmund getting possessed by the gold and Caspian and him had a super quick duel before Lucy stopped them. There wasn't a build up to it. There wasn't much of a development on Caspian side either. Lucy's evil happened in the middle the movie? And I guess I didn't feel like they explored the island enough or give it more history. Its just traveling one place to another without really caring for the character. Maybe some for Eustace. Eustace was pretty funny character. But would he make a good lead for the next movie (if they ever do?)
And towards the end, I miss the epic songs they have in the first two film that made it feel enchanting. Plus the epic battle scene? Fighting the serpent just felt chaotic and not really a threat to the characters but some side boss.
Also upon research, they wanted to make the movie more family-oriented. How about the kids who grew up from the first two film? I doubt it was really the darkness of the film that took away the audience in PC. I quite like the drama in there. Like how HP became darker. Anyways, damn Disney for not continuing their partnership and damn lower budgets.
Positives? Edmund looks handsome growing up XD haha... And the mouse was fun. But I miss Eddie Izzard voice over.
